Auburn House Rules & Regulations

The Auburn Bay Residents Association (ABRA) strives to enhance the enjoyment of members’ lives and promote community spirit by offering amenities, facilities and programs for members’ benefits in a fiscally responsible manner.   The Auburn House amenities are for the exclusive use of the Members of the Auburn Bay Residents Association and their guest(s).  The following Rules & Regulations were establish to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience when visiting Auburn House, Park and Lake.  

Please be aware that the Auburn Bay Residents Association has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination towards ABRA staff, contractors and other patrons due to their race, religious beliefs, colour, gender, gender identity, gender expression, physical disability, mental disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, source of income, family stats, or sexual orientation of that person or class of person. Individuals who partake in discriminatory behaviour are subject to disciplinary action as per the recommendation of the ABRA Board of Directors Disciplinary Committee.

General Facility Rules

Membership Rules PDF

  • Membership fees are mandatory and are due April 1st of every year.
  • A “Member” is defined in the Auburn Bay Residents Association Brochure and must live in the property for a minimum of 6 months to be considered a member.
  • If you are the registered owner of the property, bring a copy of your Certificate of Title to the office along with a piece of Government issued photo ID. The Certificate of Title can also be received by way of fax/mail/email. Certificate of Titles are not kept on file at Auburn House and any that are faxed/mailed/emailed will be shredded after being reviewed. Members must reside in the Auburn Bay home to be eligible for a membership card.
  • Renters – The homeowner may transfer their privileges to the renters. Owners or renters (not both) may have lake/facility access. If the owners wish to transfer their privileges to the renters, a Transfer of Privileges Form must be completed and returned to the Auburn House Administration Office. This form is available from the Administration Office and on www.auburnbayra.ca If the owners would like communication from the ABRA (invoices, AGM notices, etc.) sent to a different address, please inform the administration office via email at csr@auburnbay.org.
  • Unmarried children, boarders and nannies who are 21 years of age or older will be issued cards when they supply proof that they live at that address, by way of a piece of Government issued photo ID with the current address on it.
  • Members must present their membership card to gain entrance to the park and facility.
  • Members accessing the Auburn Bay Amenities must carry their membership card at all times and present it for inspection upon request of the Auburn Bay Residents Association staff.
  • Membership cards are not transferable.
  • Lending your membership card to another person is prohibited and will result in a temporary suspension of membership privileges as determined by ABRA.
  • Membership cards are eligible to be reprinted every three (3) years free of charge, at the members’ request. If a membership card is lost, residents will be charged a $10.00 replacement fee.
  • Children under 12 will not be issued cards and are only allowed to use the facilities when accompanied by an adult.
  • Parents/Guardians provide a birth certificate and must fill out a Children’s Waiver Form in order for any children, aged 12 to 15, to receive their membership card.
  • Membership cards remain the property of the Auburn Bay Residents Association. ABRA will seize and suspend access if the holder of the card breaches the rules.

General Rules PDF

  • Bicycles, liquor, and glass bottles are not permitted in the park.
  • Scooters, rollerblades, roller-skates, skateboards are not permitted in the park.
  • Use of boogie boards or other such types of equipment will only be allowed when nobody is on the beach or in the swimming area.
  • All Flotation/Splash Island toys are not to exceed four (4) meters in diameter.
  • Pets are not permitted in the park, in the lake or on any ABRA managed property and pets are not allowed on the ice in the winter. Lake Shore/Lake Access homes must also comply.
  • Open fires are not permitted in the park. Only charcoal briquettes are to be used in the barbeques.
  • Smoking and/or e-cigarette usage is not permitted in any of the building facilities, park, pathways, and lake access ways.
  • Members must refrain from using foul language in the park and rambunctious and unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.
  • The use of motorized boats (including battery operated motors) or other vehicles is prohibited (except as required by the Association for maintenance or security purposes).
  • Motorized remote control driven boats, planes, vehicles, and such are not permitted on ABRA property.
  • Jumping or diving from any dock owned by the ABRA or from any boat is strictly prohibited.
  • No person is permitted on the lake while Thin Ice signs are posted.
  • No person shall at any time discharge, deposit, throw, dump, or place any trash or debris of any kind whatsoever (including, without limitation, any toxic or dangerous substance or material) in the lake, all of which are strictly prohibited at all times.
  • The Auburn Bay Residents Association does not provide supervision or lifeguards for park/lake. Guardians are responsible for their children at all times. Members and guests will enter and use the park facilities at their own risk.

Guest(s) of Residents Rules PDF

  • Residents eligible for membership cannot be signed in as guests.
  • Adult members are permitted up to five (5) guests per household, per day. Members’ children 12 to 16 years of age, entering the park without an adult, are permitted up to two (2) guests per household, per day. All guests must be signed in with the Customer Service Representative before entering the park/facility.
    • Households are permitted a maximum of 5 guests per day, if a youth brings 2 guests, the household is then only permitted to bring up to 3 other guests, for a total of 5 for the household for the day.
    • Once children/infants are mobile they are counted as a guest.
  • Members MUST be in the park/facility with their guests at all times.
  • For more than five (5) guests, a Gate +8 Form must be completed and returned to the Auburn House Administration Office at least 48 hours prior to your event for approval.
  • Guest lists are accepted and approved on a first come, first serve basis. Auburn House accepts a maximum of 10 Lists per day, Monday through Thursday and five (5) Lists per day, Friday through Sunday & all holidays.
  • Members are permitted to submit one (1) Gate +8 List per household per day.
  • ABRA has the right to decline any large group.
  • Gate +8 List forms are available from the Administration Office and auburnbayra.ca. Maximum number of guests is 8.
  • Note – Infants who are mobile must be counted as a guest.
  • Members wishing to bring more than 8 guests must reserve a picnic shelter. Please see Picnic Shelter Reservation Regulations.

Lake Access Ways Rules PDF

  • The Lake Access walkways are for the sole use of the homeowners of the Lake Access Lots that have gate access to these walkways.
  • Boats are not permitted to be stored at the dock or on the access way for extended periods of time. No overnight storage is allowed.
  • Personal items are not permitted to be stored on the access way UNLESS approved by ABRA Management. Any unapproved items left unattended will be confiscated by ABRA Staff and available for pick up at Auburn House.
  • Considerations for park hours should be given on walkways.
  • No pets, glass bottles, liquor, motorized vehicles or open fires are permitted on Lake Access Walkways.
Gymnasium Rules

Gymnasium Rules PDF

  • All users must check in at the office before entering the gymnasium.
  • All users must act in a safe & responsible manner.
  • The ABRA staff will evict any user displaying unacceptable behavior of any kind to other residents and/or ABRA staff.
  • Residents MUST remain with their guests while using ABRA amenities. Guests are not permitted into the facility until their resident is present.
  • Profanity or abusive language is prohibited.
  • Shoes with non-marking soles only. No socked or bare feet, flip flops, or sandals (of any kind).
  • Indoor Shoes ONLY – please remove outdoor shoes before entering the gymnasium.
  • Users must remain fully clothed at all times.
  • No food or drink (except water).
  • Bicycles, rollerblades, scooters and skateboards are prohibited.
  • No outdoor hockey sticks or pucks permitted.
  • No gymnasium equipment permitted in the mezzanine area or on the stage.
  • Please respect the designated drop-in times.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision for gymnasium use.
  • Adult members are permitted to bring up to 5 guests (per household) & youth members (12-16 years, with written parental consent) up to 2 guests (per household) to any open gym time or gym drop in program.
  • Adult guests attending open gym or gym drop-in—$10.00/guest/day.
  • Youth guests (under 18 years of age) attending open gym drop-in—$5.00/guest/day.
  • Drop-in payments are non-refundable, no exceptions.
  • Members and guests will enter and use the gymnasium at their own risk.
  • In all matters, whether or not specifically covered herein, courtesy and common sense shall prevail.
  • Indoor courts do not have a reservation system. All courts are on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
    • However, all players must abide by the rotation system and take turns alternating game play when there are more groups than courts.
  • Drop-in players must play on the designated courts.
  • A game is considered concluded once played to a score of 11.
    • Once a match is complete, the next available players will head to a court.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision.
  • Tape is NOT permitted to be placed on the gymnasium floor.
  • Play is on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
    • However, all players must abide by the rotation system and take turns alternating game play when there are more groups than courts.
  • Drop-in players must play on the designated court.
  • A game is considered concluded once 5 sets are played.
    • Once a match is complete, the next available players start.
  • Once a match is complete, the next available players will head to a court.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision.
  • Indoor courts do not have a reservation system. All courts are on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
    • However, all players must abide by the rotation system and take turns alternating game play when there are more groups than courts.
  • Drop-in players must play on the designated courts.
  • A game is considered concluded once 3 games have been played
    • Once a match is complete, the next available players will head to a court.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision.

Park and Lake Rules & Regulations

Picnic Shelter Reservation Rules PDF

  • The picnic shelter may be rented for private functions only, at a rate of $25.00 per hour (Minimum two [2] hour and Maximum three [3] hour rental). Rental for public events is not permitted. The picnic shelter may be used for activities that are not advertised, no fees charged, and there is no intention to market or sell products or services.
  • Voting Members may book the picnic shelter up to twelve (12) months in advance and the member MUST be in attendance at all times.
  • Homeowners insurance or tenants insurance MUST be provided to Auburn House at the time of booking.
  • A damage/non-compliance deposit of $200 is required at the time of booking.
  • All rental charges must be paid in full at the time of booking (cheques may be postdated up to six (6) month prior to the booking).
  • Latex balloons and confetti are not permitted in the park. If they are used there will be an extra charge of $50 on the account, respectively.
  • There will be a $50.00 charge on all returned cheques.
  • Block bookings are not permitted, unless authorized by management.
  • Minimum seven (7) days’ notice is required for all bookings
  • Your group does not have access to the kitchen, Banquet Room, or Multipurpose room

Boating & SUP Rental Rules PDF

  • Residents who wish to sign out a boat or SUP must do so at the Boathouse.
  • Watercraft may only be signed out by residents with a valid ABRA membership card.
    • Those with Babysitter Cards are unable to sign out watercraft.
  • Residents under the age of 16 are unable to sign out watercraft, unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Lifejackets MUST be worn at all times while using an ABRA boat/SUP.
  • The resident whose membership card was used to sign out the watercraft, must remain on the watercraft for the duration of the rental. Guests are not permitted to be on ABRA watercraft by themselves.
  • Boats have a ninety-minute (1.5 hours) time limit. SUPs have a forty-five (45) minute time limit.
  • Boats/SUPs cannot be pulled up on to the shoreline (rocks or beach), tied off to the floating docks, or any private/shared dock.
  • All watercraft must be immediately returned to the boathouse in the case of severe weather (e.g. lightning, high winds, storms, etc.) OR if instructed to do so by an ABRA staff member.
  • No boats or SUP shall be operated in any unsafe manner. Common sense should prevail in these instances.
  • A fee will be charged for any lost or broken watercraft/equipment (e.g. SUP boards, paddles, etc.).
    • Watercraft rental privileges will be suspended until the assigned fee is paid.
  • All watercraft must be returned to the boathouse no later than 30 minutes before the park and beach closes.
  • No watercraft will be rented out 60 minutes (1 hour) before the park closes.
  • Any personal watercraft used in foreign waters must be cleaned before launching as to prevent lake contamination.
  • Always return your boat or SUP to the dock you received it from (not the beach shore).
  • Failure to adhere to ABRA Rules & Regulations will result in suspension of watercraft rental privileges.

  3. Which watercraft you would like to take out

Your rental is ready for you when you receive the following text message*: Your boat/SUP rental is ready! Please proceed to the boathouse where an attendant will assist you. Your boat/SUP will be held for 10 minutes.

*Please note that this text message WILL NOT come from the same number that you sent the request to*

  • Watercraft cannot be reserved ahead of time and are rented out on a first-come first-serve basis.
  • The booking system accepts only text messages, it will not receive phone calls.

Floating Dock Rules PDF

  • No rough play
  • No intentional rocking of the floating dock
  • No pushing or pulling other users while using the floating docks
  • No jumping on top of other users in the water
  • No watercrafts or inflatables are permitted to be tied off the floating docks
  • Swimming under the dock is strictly prohibited
  • The use of lifejackets are highly recommended

Tennis & Pickleball Court Rules PDF

  • Tennis courts are to be used for tennis and pickle ball only.
  • Soft soled court shoes are to be used.
  • Chairs and other hard objects are not permitted on the courts.
  • The courts are available by reservation at AuburnBayRA.ca. Walk-ins are also available if the courts are not reserved.
  • Use of the courts is to be restricted to 55 minute periods during busy times, except if a formal instruction program is scheduled by the ABRA.
  • Proper tennis and pickle ball etiquette should prevail to resolve disputes. 
  • Jumping, sitting, or leaning on the tennis or pickle ball nets is strictly prohibited.
  • In all matters, whether or not specifically covered herein, courtesy and common sense shall prevail.

Scuba Diving Rules PDF

  • Members may bring in guests to scuba dive providing all divers are open water certified.
  • Members and their guests may scuba dive in the lake for recreational purposes only.
    • Teaching scuba diving lessons is strictly prohibited by anyone other than an APPROVED instructor from Calgary Scuba. No exceptions.
  • All Divers must sign in and show their certification cards before entering the park with their dive gear.
  • All Divers must dive with a certified buddy. There must be at least two (2) divers in the water at all times.
  • Divers must use a flag so swimmers and boaters will know where the divers are.
  • Divers will be asked to sign in and out at the main gate and they will be asked to sign a waiver or release of liability.

Fishing Rules PDF

  • Members in good standing and their guests are permitted to fish and may only use one fishing rod each.
  • The daily take home limit is two (2) fish per Member, with a monthly take home limit of twelve (12) fish per residence. Any fish kept by guests will be included in the residents’ limits.
  • ABRA encourages the Catch and Release practice. Care must be taken to release the fish properly.
  • Each Member must register the number of fish caught before leaving the park.
  • No live bait or any type of food, or nets may be used to catch fish.
  • Lead weights are not permitted for environmental reasons.
  • Single barbless hooks only (no treble hooks).
  • Cleaning of fish is not permitted on the Auburn Bay Residents Association property, pathways, docks, shoreline, ABRA boats, or within the lake.
  • Members must leave their membership card with the appropriate staff member when they enter the park to fish. The exception to this is when they are renting a boat.
  • Fishing within five (5) meters of a private or public dock is prohibited.
  • No unattended lines are allowed off the member’s or access way docks
Winter Activity Rules

  • No person is permitted on the ice while the red flags and thin ice signs are up. The only exception is trained ABRA staff who are conducting safety checks.
    • All users must stay off the lake until the thin ice signs are removed and the green flags are flying.
    • All users must act in a safe and responsible manner.
    • Members and guests will enter and use the outdoor amenities at their own risk.
    • The ABRA staff will evict any user displaying unacceptable behavior of any kind at our discretion.
    • General courtesy towards ABRA staff and other patrons is expected of all individuals using the park, facility and its amenities.
    • Children/youth must be accompanied by a card holder while using ABRA facilities.
    • No dogs are permitted on ABRA property including the lake and lake access ways.
    • Do not litter while using ABRA amenities.
    • Wood burning fire pits are NOT permitted on ABRA property including the lake and lake access ways.
    • Portable propane fit pits are permitted on ABRA property but must be supervised at all times. Propane fire pits MUST be removed daily and cannot be left out overnight.
    • Residents MUST remain with their guests while using ABRA amenities, including lake accessways.
    • Smoking, vaping and drinking alcohol are prohibited on ABRA property, including lake accessways.
    • In all matters, whether or not specifically covered herein, courtesy and common sense shall prevail.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision for toboggan hill use.
  • Tobogganing is permitted in designated areas only.
    • The designated tobogganing area is the hill at the Amphitheatre. Please ensure that you are ONLY sledding down the hill towards the Amphitheatre. DO NOT sled down the back side of the hill.
  • Helmets are highly recommended for anyone using the toboggan hill.
  • Parental supervision is advised.
  • When tobogganing: make sure the route is clear before proceeding, DO NOT walk up the middle of the hill (stay to the sides), always face forward, clear the path quickly after stopping, avoid excessive speeding and DO NOT alter the hill.
  • Please stand outside the riding area to prevent collisions.
  • Be courteous and do not walk up the middle of the hill.
  • No person is permitted on the ice while the red flags and thin ice signs are up. The only exception is trained ABRA staff who are conducting safety checks.
  • Skating is only permitted when ABRA determines it’s safe to do so.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision for rink use.
  • Helmets are highly recommended for anyone using any ice surface.
  • Nobody is allowed on a skating surface while the Zamboni or other equipment is maintaining it.
  • Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted on the pleasure rink, no exceptions.
  • ABRA residents and their guests are expected to respect ALL skating surfaces, including ones that are not maintained by ABRA.
  • No person shall dispose of any debris, including but not limited to rocks, trash, sticks and ice chunks onto the ice.
    • Building personal ice surfaces is not permitted until ABRA staff deems the lake is safe and, the green flags are up, and the thin ice signs are removed, regardless of the ice depths in your area.
  • The small hockey rink on the lake is for families and beginner’s hockey only.
  • Please be aware of patrons on other ice surfaces (lake loop, family rink, etc.) while playing hockey. NO slapshots are permitted.
  • No person is permitted on the ice while the red flags and thin ice signs are up. The only exception is trained ABRA staff who are conducting safety checks.
  • Ice fishing is only permitted when ABRA determines it’s safe to do so.
  • Ice fishing holes must be made by an ice auger and be no larger than 8 inches in diameter.
  • Ice fishing holes may not be drilled any closer than 45 feet from ANY prepared ice surface, including rinks, lake loop and other cleared surfaces, such as the cross-country ski track.
    • Please be aware that a “cleared ice surface” refers to any ice surface that has been cleared at any point in the season, even if there is a fresh snowfall on top.
  • All holes must be made a minimum of five (5) feet away from other individuals who are also ice fishing.
  • Fishing within 15 feet of the lakeshore is prohibited.
  • All ice fishing gear MUST be removed daily and cannot be left out overnight.
  • Please fill the hole once you are done fishing and mark it with a stick. This ensures that the hole will freeze over evenly and that others will see it.
  • No person is permitted on the ice while the red flags and thin ice signs are up. The only exception is trained ABRA staff who are conducting safety checks.
  • The ABRA does not provide supervision of the cross-country ski trails.
  • Parental supervision is highly recommended.
  • Do not walk on the groomed cross-country ski trail.
  • Step off the track to pass others. Tuck your poles while passing.
  • If you stop for any reason, please step off the trail.
  • No person is permitted on the ice while the red flags and thin ice signs are up. The only exception is trained ABRA staff who are conducting safety checks.
  • Do not use snowshoes on the cross-country ski track.
  • Snowshoes can be signed out for a maximum of 3 hours.
  • Please be respectful when borrowing equipment and ensure that it is returned in the same condition that it was borrowed in.
  • Crokicurl and the Frozen Fairways are available for use on a first come, first-served basis.
  • Gameplay rules are available at the Crokicurl rink and the Frozen Fairways.
  • Please be respectful of all equipment.
